i slid down to disneyworld for the past few days and was inundated on the drive back with thunderstorms. my sis has an iphone 4 and tried to take shots, i was pretty surprised with the resolution there. but seriously what's with the stormin' lately, i thought mickey mouse had commissioned the wildly uncharacteristic depiction of Zeus from their animated Hercules and was punishing us for fleeing the park on such short notice. i thought we still had another year before 2012 and the world ended.

6 months ago you make a post about snow. Now its about lighting. Your post are now starting to seem weather related.

hey hey nice picteur man i love it :)

The image looks like an ipod commercial, iLightning!

Purple

good for you. you my friend deserve a cookie for this fascinating picture.

That is SO kickass! Don't you love thunderstorms?

nicely done. i've never quite figured out how to get good lightning pictures

Well, I don't consider that a good lightning picture, at least not a great one. However, I found I can have a much higher success of getting an okay picture of lightning by simply filming a storm with my iPhone. Since it films at 1280x720 I can take a decent screen grab from that and post it online. The images can be a bit grainy and may have funky exposures if the intense brightness from the lightning wacks out the image sensor. To get good lightning pictures you should have a decent camera on a tripod, set to the lowest ISO to reduce noise, use a small aperture, and a semi-long shutter speed. Then you just need some luck. Basically you could take 5-10 second exposures, or longer, one after another and hope lightning strikes while the shutter is open.

The lightning wont hurt him wade will use his "Steel Wade Block" on the storm.

Woah, the sky is purple in America?!

I gotta admit that that's pretty fucking awesome. :)

im at the mediterranean coast now, just some raining

Another slave of the iphone!

I see it as the iPhone is my slave and I am it's master. I make it do what i want, it doesn't make me do anything.

I'm going to be taking some Meteorology classes soon. So I'll actually know more about this stuff.

Seriously bro, you should be a weatherman.

Yeah, I probably could have been, although I don't know if I'd want to be cooped up in an office studying weather charts all day. I just like watching a storm, etc. If someone loves to watch NASCAR, does it mean they should have been a NASCAR driver? :P

Nige, We dont get fork lighning that much in my part of ireland. :C

Nice, I didn't know 30fps would be enough to effectively capture the lightning properly.

I'm a fan of thunderstorms as well, and I've been trying to capture lightning on a photo, which worked out once so far. Tripod, camera with very small aperture and long exposure. It works best when it's fully dark out there, but I've managed this one: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-a k-snc4/hs150.snc4/36877_1474570791717 _1457112439_1195865_2672645_n.jpg

Sadly it wasn't fully dark yet when I took it.

That's a really cool shot! It's a lot of hit or miss, but when you get one it can be awesome.

I actually got really lucky with that one, as it was on my first try. Naturally, I had to do quite some brightness/contrast adjustments, but yeah. :p

I'm always waiting for thunderstorms as it's a good challenge to try and catch them on photos.

That damn storm flooded the entire bottom floor of the king of prussia mall! D:

Oh wow I love thunderstorms. Seems like its been too long since the last one here, which is a shame. I literally sit at my window and just watch the lightning in wonder and enjoy the deafening roar of the thunder as it cracks through the sky.

I remember once when I was a kid we had this really bad one in the dead of night and the lightning was so fierce that the street actually seems white as it hit. Was quite in impression.

But yeah thunder and lightning are one of favourite weathers. It's nice to be inside warm and watching. Though I never mind being outside for it either. Nice pictures too. I've managed to take some (surprisingly) alright images from my iphone when out and about. Shame I just got the 3G phone still, so no video. I'll upgrade when iphone 5 comes out I suppose.
