Global Warming, we're not to blame.

Posted by WadeFulp Feb. 23, 2008 @ 5:34 PM EST

Well, not according to this guy's article which can be found here:

Why The Sun Is The Cause Of Climate Change

Imagine that, when the Sun gets hotter, so do we. It's all so simple.

I just don't believe in Global Warming altogether. :\

Feb. 23, 2008 | 6:49 PM WadeFulp responds:

Well, I believe in global climate changes, due to natural cycles, and we could be in a cycle of warming, but I thought I heard some parts of the Earth are much colder than normal, and a lot of the ice that melted away, has returned, etc. The Earth just does its thing, and it's silly to think us humans can have that much of an impact on it. As the article explain, humans are good at figuring out ways to make money pretending there is man made global warming. :) Maybe I should come up with a study about how cat litter in landfills causes Global Warming and have the government give me millions to conduct further research :)

I will settle what causes global warming.
As LED flashlights get more and more advanced, people who randomly wave them in the sky are causing angels in the heavens to combust, lighting our skies and weakening the hole in the O-zone layer, which is actually comprised of angels and pixie farts. The pixie farts alone cannot manage to pick up the slack from the burning angels.
So until LED flashlights are banned, we're boned.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 1:12 AM FiqStudios says:

Yeah, it's the sun. Let's stop trying to lower our carbon emissions now.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 12:45 PM WadeFulp responds:

Nothing wrong with trying to be more efficient, and live cleaner, etc. However, we shouldn't ruin our economies and put more people into poverty because we think we're screwing up the Earth. We're just a tiny tiny blip in the history of the Earth, we might as well live it up while we're here, because the Earth will be here long after we're gone.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 12:42 PM WadeFulp responds:

That's pretty much what the article was trying to say, most of these theories are total bullshit, and the only reason they exist is because some people found a way to make money coming up with theories, to further research them.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 6:58 AM Adzy-2k6 says:

Im not sure if this was ever broadcast in america, but if it was, have you seen that documentry showing that we aren't the cause of global warming?

Basically, it said that it was happening, and that CO2 was to blame, but tried to show how it wasn't our fault. apparently, volcanos, the sea, and something which I cant remember were releasing more CO2 than we ever could. it also stated that the sun was releasing less (or maybe it was more) solar wind, which was either not blowing radiation from space away, or was heting us itself (i said, i cant remember)

Feb. 24, 2008 | 7:23 AM satanbrain says:

intersting... maybe its true

Feb. 24, 2008 | 8:11 AM cokiemonster3 says:

holy crap well yes of corse if the sun gets warmer the so do we but serrioulsy the efects are ampliffied by the greenhouse efect that has been proved. the layer of gases that keeps ourplanet warm (yay) is getting thiker and how is that happening well no one nows but im preaty sure we have somthing to do with it but hey thats only my opinion i could be wrng

Feb. 24, 2008 | 12:44 PM WadeFulp responds:

You sure it is? What about the 17,000 scientists that signed a petition claiming what you are stating isn't true, at least that global warming is caused by humans.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 1:36 PM Istentelen says:

The USA has (one of, if not) the greatest CO2 emission on the world, so it tries to refuse to accept it's responsibility, and makes up any story to make people belive that something else is responsible, so they can continue ruin the environment with a good conscience.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:08 PM WadeFulp responds:

It would be one thing if the government was claiming it wans't us, but this is coming from leading scientists in fields that best understand thing like Global warming, climate change, etc. The world's biggest problem with pollution, if it isn't already, will soon be China. The USA is actually trying hard to clean things up, we have so many laws, codes, taxes, etc, to reduce our pollution it's nuts. You should have seen the chaos that resulted from some home heating oil being spilled at my neighbors, we had people in the creek with things to soak it up, ground water samples were taken for well over a year after the spill, contaminated dirt, etc, removed. We take pollution very seriously in the USA. If we didn't, why would there have been such a response to something as little as a home heating oil spill? Imagine what we do when there is a big problem.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 1:57 PM mranarchy says:

I bet evolution is a lie as well!

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:09 PM WadeFulp responds:

Evolution has been proven scientifically. We see things evolving infront of our own eyes.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 3:44 PM Jon4life says:

Send a rocket to the Sun to blow it up. Problem solved. THE END.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 6:13 PM Adzy-2k6 says:

You said the world will be here long after we are gone. The human race is so intelient, we will probably survive until close to the planets destruction (or until we evolve again, but think we are close to our peak right now). It would take an asteroid or the sun blowing up (or a black hole) to eliminate us.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:12 PM WadeFulp responds:

Something killed the dinosaurs, yet the Earth survived, and here we are. Something may kill us, asteroid, climate change, disease, nuclear war, super volcanoes, whatever, but the Earth will probably heal and return to a place of life, even if it's millions of years later.

So should we all suffer, and be miserable, just so in another 50-100 years a super volcano goes off and does far more harm than we could have ever done to ourselves? Yellowstone National Park is a ticking time bomb.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 7:40 PM Mizar says:

Wow, they are finally learning to accept that it isn't our fault!

Now we can end this "global warming" nonsence! It's a political problem, not an enviornmental problem.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:15 PM WadeFulp responds:

If the Earth is heating up, naturally, or whatever, it may not be a bad thing, but it could lead to a bad thing, another ice age. The Earth won't just keep heating up, as the oceans warm, and warm, more water vapor goes into the atmosphere, which comes down as snow over land. Eventually so much snow falls it doesn't all melt in the summer months, the area of snow cover expands, and as it expands, it reflects more of the sun's rays, and the Earth starts to cool, and cool, and go into an ice age. Then, eventually, the Earth, slowly warms up, thaws out, and we start the process all over again. It wasn't that long ago that we had our last ice age, and there was a big ass glacier that came to a stop about a mile north of me, and I'm near Philadelphia. That glacier has melted away, but someday, another glacier maybe back, and if that happens, many major towns and cities will be crushed under it.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:08 PM Seamonky says:

I still blame people for their actions. Although the sun is increasing in size, we are to blame of the ozone layer, which give us UV radiation cancer. Fucking Lysol cans. >:(

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:18 PM WadeFulp responds:

Obviously you didn't read the article, which explained it was shown the ozone layer was altered by the Sun, and it's a natural cycle our ozone layer goes through. Don't try and figure out the ozone layer if you can't figure out why your monitor is all green. :P

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:39 PM SniperWolf1564 says:

This still does not mean that humanity has to leave trash lying every where, poorly store nuclear waste, and waste precious resources.

Feb. 25, 2008 | 12:52 AM WadeFulp responds:

I agree. However, China is putting a new coal burning power plant online each week, and will continue doing so for years to come. You can see yellow smog over some of China's major cities from space, or Google Earth. As most of the world is finding ways to pollute less, they are polluting more and more. They will probably consume more fossil fuels than the world combined sooner or later.

When it gets so bad over there, pollution, that their people can't take it anymore (kind of what happened in the USA), they will hopefully start cleaning up their act, maybe buying clean tech from us hopefully.

Feb. 24, 2008 | 10:42 PM Seamonky says:

Fix my screen dammit. I blame you for the sun increasing and the ozone layer... and my screen being green. Hahaha!

Feb. 24, 2008 | 11:54 PM herblin says:

I blame LCD flashlights

Feb. 25, 2008 | 12:53 AM WadeFulp responds:

LED's maybe our only hope.

Feb. 25, 2008 | 12:34 AM InsaneSmilie says:

I'm skeptical about that article, while yes the condition of our sun will obviously affect our climate, climate simulations have given fairly concrete evidence that the amount of CO2 we emit into the atmosphere will cause considerable increases in global temperature. It's quite simple really, we know the amount of CO2 our industries emit (based off fuel consumption), we know the chemical properties of Carbon Dioxide, and we know the size of our planet and atmosphere. So I think it's fair to say that a simulation based of these facts would be pretty accurate. Even if the sun has some effect, it doesn't mean that CO2 emissions have nothing to do with it. Also consider the fact that there are oils companies that value in the trillions who would really benefit form the argument presented here, hard to say that about the green house effect.

Feb. 25, 2008 | 12:54 AM WadeFulp responds:

Not that simple. Just talk to an expert meteorologist. Their weather models, which have far more research and work put into them, can't accurately predict the weather a week out, or more. So how is some climate model going to accurately predict the future climate? It can't, there are way to many variables.

Feb. 25, 2008 | 8:26 AM Sterance says:

Wade, you know a lot about HID bulbs. I've got a desk lamp that has one in it and I haven't changed the bulb in over 5 years. So why are the global warming nuts trying to force me to buy compact florescent bulbs? Why not HID bulbs?

Feb. 25, 2008 | 8:41 AM Maxxor says:

At first the anti-enviromentalists were all like "No, there's not global warming. Not at all. You're making it up."

But now it's more like "Yeah, there is a global warming, but we humans didn't cause it. Don't blame us"

Make up your fucking mind.

We can't just continue to pump out shit into the atmoshpere and expect everything to be alright.

Feb. 26, 2008 | 10:54 PM WadeFulp responds:

Yeah the Earth pumps way more shit into the atmosphere with volcanoes than we ever will, yet we're here. Volcanos have been spewing shitloads of crap into the atmosphere through Earth's history, far more crap than we ever could dream of, and we're here, alive and well. About 600,000 years ago when the Super Volcano under Yellowstone National Park erupted over half of the USA was covered in ash. Last I checked, we're no where close to putting out that kind of pollution.

Feb. 25, 2008 | 1:30 PM TheSoulMan says:

That's nothing but cleaning the hands of those who keep producing benefits the most efficiently possible, even though they're harming the natural cycles of the Earth.

It's very easy to search for another way to elude the responsabilities. No matter how many times he says that it is okay to look for other sources, the point is basicly "come on guys let's continue wiping our asses with the Kioto's Protocol". It's really cool when it is the other people who get massive radiations from UV rays (like Chili, Antartica, oh, that's on the south hemisphere who the fuck cares), tornadoes, hurricanes (the US didn't even get away on those ones), etc.

Of course that the Earth has cycles of warming and cooling in a small scale, but getting disasters on the way isn't in a good plan. Meh, only poor people who didn't have insurances had any really serious repercussion on Katrina, I'm okay with that, right?

As you say a few comments above: "ruin our economies and put more people into poverty because we think we're screwing up the Earth..." Wow,dedicating more money to the investigation budges won't do any harm, medicine in the USA is that advanced because of that. I don't think that you'll fall into poverty because you have to use a train, tram, or whatever (which are safer and quicker) instead of hanging around with your car to travel to another city (or getting the newspaper!), or that you'll become miserable because industries put some solar pannels in the middle of Arizona in order to get some solar power. Oops, I forgot, about 1/15 of the huge industries will be spent on investigation, oh my.

It's only the US who pollutes, of course, but it's definately the leader. It's funny when they bought the poor countries' pollution limit just to be able to make some more money.

Global warming doesn't only affect heat, but also all the other climate and weather effects, it's a misinterpretation of the term. He continously states places where IT WAS COLDER THAN EVER (is that a good thing???), where it snows where it hasn't before (wow that's fucking cool, only a few animals and plants die hell yeah)...and I ask if that isn't a change (for the bad) too.

Feb. 26, 2008 | 11:01 PM WadeFulp responds:

Crazy weather has been around in the past, it's not caused by us, it's cause by natural weather patterns, climate cycles, the Sun's cycles, etc. Katrina? Katrina was nothing, much worse Hurricanes were around and hit the USA in the early 1900's, you know, before "we were causing global warming".

If some of the storms from the past return, we'll see Massachusettes get hit with Hurricanes that produce 180MPH wind gusts, etc. The problem is we now have populated areas in places that weren't populated 20, 50, 100 years ago, etc. The storms that hit them had no one to record them, but when they hit now it's a big deal, and people blame it on global warming, our pollution, etc. The problem is people are building homes in places that are vunerable to big storms that may only come along every 50-200 years. Or longer. We only have a short snap shot of weather to work with, who knows what kind of storms were around over the past few thousand years.

Feb. 25, 2008 | 1:33 PM TheSoulMan says:

meh i made a couple of mistakes up there, "it's NOT only the USA who.."

"1/15 of the huge industries WORTH will be..."

and if there are more you get the point

Feb. 26, 2008 | 11:02 PM WadeFulp responds:

We don't know that. For all we know, we're making it better. That's the problem, we don't know, for sure, what the best move is. Maybe our carbon emissions have prevented an ice age?

Feb. 25, 2008 | 5:33 PM BadPun says:

Well, according to some other articles, we are to blame. But whatever, whether or not the planet is warming and whether or not we were the ones screwing it up, a cleaner earth is all good.

Feb. 26, 2008 | 11:05 PM WadeFulp responds:

I agree, and we should continue to take steps to clean things up, but in order to do that we have to have stable economies etc. If we make new laws that destroy corporations, bankrupt our economy, etc, you can forget about fighting pollution, no one will give a shit, because they will be fighting to survive, and pollution will get worse. Baby steps is what it takes. We have to move at a pace that allows us to keep our economies stable and strong, so we have the money and the will to fund projects to come up with cleaner technologies, etc.

Interesting to see another side of the argument, but you cannot deny there is more than one factor here. This is kindof like dumping gasoline in a forest and then saying it was dry anyways when it burns down. It's an excuse, but you're still an idiot. The fact is, we've sped global warming years ahead, even if we are just making the inevitable happen sooner. Besides, this is accepted fact and fits right in with all the theories. It's been thought of, and now it's just being used as an excuse. quite simply:

sun + thick atmosphere = hot earth,
hotter sun + thick atmosphere = hotter earth.

Don' be to quick to shift the blame from us or we'll never deal with it.

Feb. 27, 2008 | 2:03 AM cellardoor6 says:

Another interesting thing to think about is how global warming to a similar degree to what we're now experiencing has happened several times in the last 1200 years.

Long before humans had the ability to produce greenhouse gases that are supposedly NOW the culprit, the earth experienced dramatic increases in temperature, and subsequent dramatic decreases. Kind of funny how despite these facts, people with political agendas continue to blame human behavior solely for global warming, and declare that we can prevent global warming by changing our behavior.

Take a look at page 16:

Well I studied this a bit in geography, honestly I did not read all that. But I am thinking it was about the suns temperature fluctuating being warmer at the current century, and colder in previous.
Evidence to prove this is the charts going back over the last few ice ages, the temperture rises and falls in a cycle and in the past the global warming we are seeing now has also previously been hit in the past as far back as they can tell.
However due to the global warming being a natural cycle, it still does not help what we are doing, as it may reach these temperatures anyway, but we are still adding fuel to the fire. And so, we cannot blame it entirely on the sun, we still do need to take action as otherwise we might exceed the cycle and make it infact much worse.
What do you think?

Feb. 28, 2008 | 10:47 PM Link7120 says:

Wow... interesting views on this topic from everyone... and you seem to have an acceptable viewpoint on it. Yeah, sun gets hotter, we get warmer and toasty due to an excess amount of UV rays, and then it backs off. But then again, we contribute slightly to it. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs for short) bond with ozone to make other molecules. But we're fixing that, and should continue doing so. Earth was here long before us, and we have been abusing it like you wouldn't believe, and releasing harmful toxins into the atmosphere in which may have contributed to the greenhouse gases. But... I think that we are not the sole problem of "global warming." We may be just a small fraction in it. But we have to improve our actions. This will probably reduce global warming so that we don't slammed with as severe temperature increase.
And as for "natural disasters," thing, the whole entire reason for a hurricane or other severe weather condition is right in the title. "Natural" disaster. You are right Wade, we have nothing to do with these disasters. They will occur as life goes on due to wind currents, temperature, moon's position in relation to the Earth, and a whole other things that are scientific. They will happen, on larger or smaller scales than what we hae experienced.

And if we use more LEDs, the world would be better too.

FINALLY, somone that supports what i've been saying for years! I mean, i'm not saying we're definitely not the cause of global warming, which we may just be, i'm saying that it seems SO much more likely that a planet that has been around for so long would be in a natural cycle, other than assuming that we, who have existed on earth and have been emitting carbon for an entirely insignificant fraction, like one 5487846548745484564156487685547654785 7985435468765457878744687469878745468 4867987987435468487458767487876878th, (duh, i don't know the exact statistic) of that could have caused what appears to be significantly changing our Earth. It just doesn't seem to make much sense, when we blame ourselves for something we ASSUME to be true... until we find definitive proof that WE'RE causing this (which i seriously doubt will happen) i just think it's extremely idiotic to punish ourselves for something we don't know SHIT about.

NOONE seems to be providing evidence that we are the cause of it, they just say that the planets been warming and we've been emitting carbon, ergo, our carbon emissions are causing global warming... well, this may sound dismissive, but what if its a COINCIDENCE?! i mean for christ sake, how can we call it fact if its just possibility?

Anyway, i'm rambling, so i'll just say from here that i totally agree with you, Wade.

then how does the sun get hotter?

Mar. 2, 2008 | 8:21 PM WadeFulp responds:

Wow, you need to study up on things like that. The Sun is a giant ball of burning gases. You think a giant ball of burning gases is going to be stable and burn the same temp all the time? Have you ever heard of sun spots, solar flares, etc? The Sun does some crazy shit, and the changes in the Sun directly impact the Earth.

Mar. 1, 2008 | 11:00 PM Squeky says:

Never believed in GW anyways, how did people think the ice age ended, by cavemen farting carbon deoxide and methane?!?!

P.S. Did you know that Alaska used to be tropical? Saw it on either "The Science Channel" or "The Discovery Channel".

Mar. 1, 2008 | 11:03 PM Squeky says:

And besides, how did GW do with anything with Hurricane Katrina?

Mar. 3, 2008 | 1:14 PM WadeFulp responds:

Katrina wasn't even that strong compared to other Hurricanes that have hit the USA in the past. It just happened it took a path that resulted in a disaster. It was only Cat 3 at landfall.

There was a hurricane that hit Miami, FL in the early 1900's, and if it hit today, it would result in around 157 billion dollars of damage. Katrina's damage was like 87 billion.

Things people need to keep in mind with Hurricanes when people blame them on global warming:

1. More tropical systems (tropical storms, hurricanes) are named these days than they were in the past. So there really aren't more storms than there used to be.

2. Before we had satellites and other reporting equipment we had no idea how many storms were moving around over the oceans.

3. Hurricane damage will get more costly as more people move to the coasts. In the past, the coasts that were hit by major hurricanes weren't as populated or developed as they are now, so obviously the price tag on the damage will get higher every year as there is more developement along the coasts that get hit.

I remember when I was on a trip to Cuernevaca, Mexico with my family years and years ago a hailstorm that was totally out of place for the dry season they were in. The reason cited for its occurance was a sunspot or some other solar event (I don't remember specifically... I was in elementary school at the time).

The sun can certainly do some fucked up shit to our weather. But global temperature here should ultimately remain pretty stable provided our world stays hot at the core, is heated by the sun, and has such a HUGE amount of water on its surface.

Personally, I don't agree with most people who entirely dismiss the theory of man's effect on global warming, because I feel like it's mostly an excuse to ignore a lot of environmental concerns. It all ultimately will boil down to over-population. Humans are far too successful to continue to thrive in this way unless we diversify our environments to include extra-terrestrial locations. All our eggs are in this one basket, and if we're to outlive our world we need to escape its confines.

Not that any of that matters to me personally, I guess. It's just important because I've got this instinct in me that wants my particular branch of the family tree to outlive everyone else's. Yay survivalism.

Mar. 3, 2008 | 1:16 PM WadeFulp responds:

I wish I could live forever so I could see how all this turns out. :)

Well a bit. But it does make us feel better to deny it entirely. And youre right in saying that we shouldnt let it entirely affect and ruin our economy especially in the third world which takes the brunt of the force. Like all the politicians have decided to provide them with solar panels which is a lot more expensive than they can really afford and dont even use them themselves!
Hypocrates.

Mar. 5, 2008 | 4:02 PM WadeFulp responds:

Mar. 5, 2008 | 7:04 PM ShortMonkey says:

I don't believe in Global Warming at all. So, we humans make the weather warmer by doing our shit, but all those chemicals and crap that make the weather warm just float out into space and don't change anything.

DO NOT buy into the scam. It's a scam just like terrorism.

Mar. 13, 2008 | 2:53 AM EKublai says:

well, it's true that the end of the physical earth is supposed to occur because the sun, like all stars, gets hotter and larger as it ages, in fact right before it dies (supernova) it will be at its largest and hottest. However this can't really account for the sudden increase of temperature we're experiencing globally here since time for change in the sun is on a much more epic scale. Right now we are experiencing the hockey stick effect with temperature and greenhouse gase emissions (google hockey stick effect climate) and while fluctuations do occur naturally, people don't seem to want to respect some of the most fundamental examples of how the heat of the sun is secondary to our atomsphere. Look at mercury and venus. Who's closer to the sun? mercury. But venus is hotter because it has an atomsphere, something that mercury lacks. The reasoning is that heat radiation becomes trapped in the atomsphere longer. It accumulates. Earth's atomsphere is nowhere near as congested as venus' but the more shit that flies up into the atomsphere, the more heat from the sun is going to be trapped in. Today we combust crude oil which releases greenhouse gas (we've practically depleted a natural resource) and we cut down the trees which used to breathe in CO2 and breathe out oxygen.

"You sure it is? What about the 17,000 scientists that signed a petition claiming what you are stating isn't true, at least that global warming is caused by humans."
Scientists can be bought out. How many "experts" testify for a bullshit cause? It is easy to find some pennyless scientists and cough up some money for them to say whatever you want.

Scientists don't have to be knowledgable to sign something. How much do you want to bet half of those scientists who signed are into something completely different like psychology, or who have some ties to the oil industry?

There have been many ice ages throughout the history of the earth. Many before man even existed. My question is; "who caused the last rounds of global warming, resulting in the end of each of these ice ages?" Did the dinosaurs release too much CO2 with their cars and factories? I know it wasn't the Flinstones; they used clean, efficient, foot power, or dinosaurs for automation and locomotion. The earth's temperature definitely seems to be linked to CO2 levels, but CO2 levels seem to be on a 100 thousand year cycle. Guess what, we're in the hot spike now.

Apr. 28, 2008 | 1:34 PM MCU says:

When people say ''We can stop it getting hotter faster though!'' It really pisses me off, sorry.
Because my theory is, if we are to look at global warming as a car going 200 mph/kmph towards a man, and our efforts slow it down by 10-15 mph we are not making much of a difference. I think our efforts are ok, not making much difference. Wasting time doing something that won't help much, if at all.
