I"m still rockin my Cosco LED flashlight. i THINK the box said 80 lumens, and it seems about that bright. All it says on the flashlight is "ELEMENT 3 Watt LED." I've had it for about a year and a half and i've never changed its 3 AAA batteries. It's dimmed noticeably, but there was a monsoon last month and my dorm lost power; my cosco light did the trick.
I'll have to check out your keychain sized one. The keychain one i have now is one i grabbed from REI. I think the brand name was something like jaguar, but its a little flat thing with a watch battery running it. It has a lame blue LED. Thanks for the info!
Also what would recommend for a lightweight spring assisted knife with a clip on the side? I'm trying to minimize my every day pocket contents.
I'm not a big fan of spring assisted knives, but Kershaw has a nice line up. Maybe look into a Kershaw Leek, or some of the other Kershaw assisted openers.
The Costco LED flashlight probably has a Luxeon LED, which is okay, but not as efficient as the newer Cree 7090 XR-E's which are starting to show up in more lights on store shelves. Coleman have a bunch at Walmart now. Most of those other Fenix lights will have more output, more efficient circuits, better build quality, etc, than what you'll find in stores. You get what you pay for basically.

They were originally thinking about offering green, but it didn't happen. Since the lights are hard anodized it's tough to control the color. Some are darker than others, sometimes the head and body don't match exactly. The benefit of the hard anodizing is they get less scratched up.

The funny thing that someone pointed out, and I tried it and it works, is you can use an LED light and hold it next to your eye and point it around. You will see wolf spiders' eyes reflecting back at you! You can spot a spider from 100 feet away, etc, and track it down. Of course other eyes with reflect back as well, cats, skunks, possums, etc. I found some toads and frogs this way too. The toads and frogs have a faint blueish reflection. The spiders have a brilliant, almost diamond sparkling, type reflection. You can judge the size of the spider by the size of the reflection. Kinda interesting. lol.
