Jeez. First it's Yuengling, then it's knives, now it's LED flashlights...what else won't you get into? :-) I've used LED flashlights for a while, as they are super lightweight and bright. Ideal for backpacking and anything else that requires you be as light as possible...

How much would this 'LED' technology cost us?

Can you be more specific?

I like it how when you adjust a regular flashlight.....there's a little dark spot in the middle......it's like the cheap, and older version of a laserpointer when it comes to aiming at something somewhere in the dark, but you can still see the whole thing.

When I first saw the photo, I thought you tried to make a heart shaped...um, thing? :) My thought changed when I read what you wrote :) That's great news.

Find me a site that sells a high powerd yellow LED flash light, that delivers to Australia, and I will pledge my undying aliegence to the e-badass glasses.
(also beacuse I'm lazy.)

ha my lazzer gose to the moon!

I don't know everything, but I know some about lights and all that, I know everything you were talking about, but still correct me if i'm wrong...

LED lights have been around for at least a couple of years, and there is a difference between them like what you were talking about, if you could get two different picture of those two lights shining on the same wall, and the pictures together, then you will see that LED light has a whiter light, may seem very bright upclose, but after not too far, they fade pretty fast, and they couse much more of whats called "light pollution" even though I think it should be called "sky-view pollution",whatever, and it's hard because alot of observatories, that scientists use, are on a hill, and there is a city not too far away, and make it alot harder to observe the sky, and since it still takes billion of eyars for everything they observe, the contact with lights, yes, even LED react weridly, i'm not sure how though, I learned most of it in Physics.(how things work, atoms, energy, ect.)

And yes, they use VERY very little energy, it's just hard to use them when they need to reach far, for example, the distance from the top of a street light, to the ground.

Don't be hattin' on my flourescents lights! I love how they make that nice white, natruel looking light, just like my dear ol' freind The Sun!

I know, really long comment huh? You would excpect something like, "cool great job finding that out" or some other comment. Again, I just started learning about physics, and I'm not being a know-it-all, I hate that, so correct me if i'm wrong, it's mostly my opinion anyway.

LED's have come a LONG way in the past year, and even months. I can stand 100 feet away from my Dad's HAM radio tower, and light up the top of it, which is 100 feet up (so that's 200 feet from the light to the top of the tower) with my small pocket LED light. Street lights would be no problem with 4 or 6 emitters. The nice thing with LED's is since they are small you can cluster them together to get more light ouput.

how much did they pay u 2 say dis wADE

LED's are cool, I learned about them in primary school.
Also, will LED's replace lazorz?
Because if they last that long, there will be no need to charge my lazorz!

PS: The light on that LED is strong!
They are way superior to normal light bulbs, and they last longer.
Practical for home use. (God I'm such a geek!) Wade know's all this stuff but he doesn't come across as geeky, because he's too FREAKIN' ....COOL! I dunno how you pull it off Wade.

They've been replacing lights with LEDs here too, in the harbor they replaced the 'traffic lights' for ships with LED bundles, I believe it was a 10 hour job to fit them all in place, because they had to do it on the spot (it can't be taken down).

My father owns a bicycle shop and hasn't sold anything but LED bike lights for years, although there are only a few alternatives there, still.

Some people have been building custom bicycle lights with the new LED's. Like two head lights with 3 LED's in each. Their bicycle would pretty much look like a car going down the road as their lights would be close to car head light power. :)

Most of the LED bicycle lights out there, in the $50 or less range, aren't that bright and use older LED's. Soon you'll see the newer LED's in the $20-50 range and they will be much brighter.

I have one of those crank LED flashlights. You know, the ones that you charge by turning the crank? Really bright and its much easier to turn the crank then to go and buy new batteries.

Between Stamper's rants about CPS3 emulation and this post on the glories of LEDs, I've officially decided that the NG staffmembers are absolute geeks, god bless em.

A question about the features-
On the user's page, there's the column on the left with the profile pic, then the contact info, then the NG stats. The bottom section of the stats shows stats for BBS posts, Flash Reviews, Music Reviews, etc. Each of these items is a link, and the BBS Posts link takes you to all the BBS Posts that the user has made. The Flash Reviews link, though, just takes you to the top of the user's page again (as do Music Reviews and Trophies) The Stickers link does lead somewhere else (shamelessly).

I'm sure you guys have plans to put this all together, but the redesign's been up and beautiful for a month and a half and the Flash Reviews link still doesn't work. I'd be stoked to see if any authors responded to my reviews, but I'm not trying to remember all the Flash I reviewed and then go back through the portal looking for it (and then for my comments in the sea of reviews for each flash). Is there an ETA for this feature, or is it low-priority?

Sorry if this was addressed somewhere else, I couldn't find it.
(Also, how about using the game/movie icons to the left of submission titles in NG Home> Flash Portal> New Submissions, just to make browsing that massive list a little easier?)

How much would house lamps cost?

My town, Coventry is a little behind with technology. Most lights haven't changed at all, with traffic lights either running out or getting stuck on one colour. I suppose LEDs would definitely help with this, seeing as they are so efficient and last for a long time. But the council can't be bothered to do anything. And wouldn't LEDs cost alot? So why buy a flashlight that is a little brighter for alot of money when I could buy a normal one that runs out of battery every now and then for a fraction of the price?

Some LED lights cost more, but it's not just because it's an LED light. Surefire has been selling regular bulbed flashlights in the $100-500 range, and even more expensive, for many years.

You can order 9 LED lights for $10 if you know where to look. It all depends on if you want a a piece of shit flashlight, a decent flashlight, a really nice flashlight, or something you could mount on an automatic weapon and take to war.

Hey Wade, did you get that 3C Rayovac model from the company yet?
How does it perform. Ironically, I've seen comments that are 50 / 50 about it. Folks seem to either hate or love it.

Yeah, I have some coming. Going to give one to my folks and one to my inlaws. I may modify mine. We'll see. :)

What is it with you and lights wade?

Also, I think I had that flashlight on the right until I lost it. One of the best I'd ever used.

Can't believe that other tiny one gives off such a bright wide light for its size.

You can buy maglites at Lowes, Walmart, Target, etc.

Oh Wade...You had me at 'war'.
Anyway, that was a pretty convincing argument.
Mostly true, and yeah I have noticed some huge prices slapped on flashlights.
LEDs do seem to be more reliable for their price anyway.

I would, but I haven't needed a flashlight in months. I've seen those rechargeable LED's at Home Depot, and they do look promising. I'd love to have those handy during an emergency, but we've never had one up here in New York. It's a bit careless and nearsighted, but hey, I don't have the car or the money.

LED technology is very, very promising, it's very, very energy efficient and probably can last indefinitely if kept properly. I have some really old ones from electronics kits that I've been using for ages now, and if I took them out of the box, they'd still work. It's still expensive, and I'm disappointed that they don't have them replacing compact fluorescents already.

But the best part is that the light's so CLEAR. Almost all of the energy is transmitted into visible light instead of infrared. It's being used now, so despite the initial setbacks I think it's going a promising tech.

We should hopefully see LED home lighting in the next few years. CREE just announced it produced 1000 lumens from a single LED, and that's more lumens than most household bulbs put out. So it's just a matter of time now and they are really moving forward quickly. It's a race between CREE and Phillip's Lumileds to get LED's into whatever they can, home lighting, TV's, stree lights, car head lights, etc. GE is looking to buy CREE so they woud have a way to compete with Phillips in the lighting markert.

The technology will get cheaper and cheaper and it's pretty cheap already.

That makes me laugh Wade. My Uncle sells police equipment in Las Vegas and we know all about LED flashlights. We particularly love a strobing flashlight made by Streamlight. The cops around here say it works great on drunks! If you are ever in Las Vegas, be sure to check out Calvada Police Equipment. We probably have a few toys I am sure you would like.

Have you checked out Pelican's new 7060 LAPD flashlight? CREE based LEDS, plastic body so LAPD can carry it (they don't let their officers carry metal flashlights anymore due to law suits by people who were beaten with metal flashlights).

A bunch of my LED flashlights strobe. It's hard find one that don't. :)
