Shoveling Snow

Posted by WadeFulp Feb. 22, 2008 @ 3:22 PM EST

Well, here in Bucks County PA I got about 4 inches of snow last night. I should have got out early to shovel, but I waited, and along came some freezing rain. So the once fluffy snow that I could have removed with a broom got all soaked and turned slushy, so shoveling it was a lot more work since it weighed a lot more. Still, slushy snow is better than no snow. I pulled the kids around in their sled for a bit, and then I had to get to work clearing my front side walk so the borough doesn't fine me.

We don't get snow in Texas... and since I had to work this Christmas break instead of seeing my family in Michigan.. I haven't seen any snow in a while :(

Oh Poo. Looks like you were having fun though ;)

What an amazing news story!! lol...
It haven't really snowed here in Denmark this year... So I have to wait till next year to bombard my little sister with snowballs :P

Feb. 22, 2008 | 3:34 PM WadeFulp responds:

Yeah, I must be getting old if I look forward to going out and shoveling snow. Gets me out of the house. Hey cool, my old car mechanic, who retired from his business, is out plowing my sidewalk with the borough's little tractor plow. He now works for the borough, and does whatever odd jobs need done around town. :)

It's still snowing.

Yea, it finally snowed here too. I didn't get up early enough to shovel, I missed out on the fun.

It's not as bad as I thought it would be....no freezing rain but 4-6 inches in NY kept me busy shoveling for an hour. At least, the snow was good for snowball fighting this time.

Feb. 22, 2008 | 4:42 PM Daniel-M says:

We had some snow today as well actually, made even more strange by the fact the past few days were blistering sunshine.

Feb. 22, 2008 | 5:06 PM DP36 says:

Are snow is already shoveled down here in pittsburgh.

Happy days. I remember the halfmeterhigh plains of white powder we used to have before moving down to souther territoriums. Now it's all melted and green . . .

Feb. 22, 2008 | 5:47 PM Hybrid-Of-Souls says:

Snowed here, too. Luckily my parents wanted me out helping on shoveling before the rain made the snow any heavier.

Haste is the key with snow-shoveling.

Feb. 22, 2008 | 5:47 PM cornbin says:

Nice pic wade.

You're obviously missing your LMG though.

Feb. 22, 2008 | 5:55 PM WadeFulp responds:

Haha. I could have used my LMG today. Our back yard has been full of Robins, up in the trees, you know, the birds. I now hate Robins, they are shit bags with wings and they sit up in our trees and shit all over our yard and our car. I took my kids out to play in the fresh snow, and over half of the snow was covered in bird shit! I even got shit on, my coat sleeve, while I was cleaning off our minivan. I proceeded to throw snow balls at the fucking Robins and yell at them. Then I realized beating my snow shovel on my garage door was far more effective as the loud banging chased them promtly away. :)

Shame they are protected and I can't discharge a gun where I live. Otherwise I'd unload on them with a 12 guage.

To see how bad it is, check this pic, and use the right arrow above to scroll through some more. Every brown spot is bird shit:

Your kids are lucky Wade! My mom lent me a couple bucks so I could buy my friend a birthday card and I have to shovel to pay her back. Its snowing right now and the snow has piled up to at least half a foot by now. What doesn't help is that the plows come by every five minutes, and they plow so carelessly so that they get snow in every single driveway. Oh, and my dad is pretty mush allergic to manual labor.

Feb. 22, 2008 | 6:04 PM WadeFulp responds:

I live on the main road through town, and their is no shoulder for the lane that is infront of my place, so the cars are inches from the sidewalk when they drive by, and the plows through the snow onto my sidewalk, which sucks. I can't shovel it into the road because the cars would drive over it. I have to pile it up in my front lawn. Oh well, the joys of living on a main road.

Well, if your Dad would have a heart attack or something trying to shovel, then that's not good. :) I felt like I was going to drop dead a couple times, so I can see how a lot of people die from shoveling. :)

Feb. 22, 2008 | 6:32 PM Ragnarokia says:

Damn you and your reletively epic snow that you Americans recieve.
In England, we get melted ice at the most, also any chance of slight snow, quickly turns to this slush in several hours.

I do wish I got something like that at some point : (
Seems fun.

Well, here in Liberal I don't have to shovel the snow out. The snow melts here and I don't have to shovel.

Feb. 22, 2008 | 11:20 PM CrazyCookie says:

Bah, I hate it when that happens. I remember one time up here (I live in Alberta, Canada) it snowed something like half a meter (about half a yard) and I said to myself "Eh, I'll just do it later". So I went to my own devices, completely forgetting about the chore I'd have to do eventually. Anyways, I got back about three hours later and to do it, and to my horror, I realise that a fine layer of slush has formed underneath all the snow (I'd say about half of it). And I had a big driveway + sidewalk to shovel. It took me something like an hour to finally finish. My arm was quite sore afterwards.

Oh, the joys of snow.

I hate shoveling but i can usually get my son to do it for a small fee.

Feb. 23, 2008 | 1:33 AM Sterance says:

4 inches? Heh, back in Spokane we had almost 3 feet standing. And thats not cumulative... I had to shovel my grandpa's deck with a giant grain shovel so the thing wouldn't collapse under the weight.

Enjoy what little snow you have though, because i'm in Arizona right now, and have the sun.

Feb. 23, 2008 | 2:43 PM WadeFulp responds:

We haven't had much snow this year, but winter isn't over, and some of the biggest storms come in March. I remember one storm that was about 30 inches, close to 3 feet of snow, from a single storm. We've had a few 20-30 inch snows around here over the years, and some 12-20 inch storms, etc. Anything over 6 inches is pretty good for around here.

Feb. 23, 2008 | 2:48 AM Officer says:

Truth be told, I envy you. You and your 4 inches... er snow of course. I wish it snowed over here in New Zealand, even though it is indeed summer the fact remains that in winter it snows as often as it does in summer. I love the snow, probably because it's something diferent and uncommon but mainly because you can snowboard on it :3

Lucky you and your snow, so make the most of it and don't procrastinate, I'd gladly swap summer rain for snow any day :)

your lucky wade!!

i'd love to get even an inch of snow where I live, but no. Britain just has one season and one weather type... rain, well more accurately, DRIZZLE. its not proper rain or snow, its just rain that makes all the air water =/

hope your kids enjoyed the sledging anyway =)

Oh, Pshaw, up here in Chicago land, we have had snow fall multiple times a week since winter began, I've had to shovel nearly constantly, and no pussy Eastern seaboard snow, nope, we got seven inch blizzard hardass snow.

I think I am physically a de facto old man now.
*hobbles off*

4 INCHES???

That's a fucking cakewalk to Minnesotans.

It's absolutely dreadful when its wet. Then it's weighs like 40 pounds when you try to pick up the shovel with snow in it.

We haven't really gotten much snow lately, but when we do it's awful.

I know what you mean, I just recently moved upstate NY and it snows like hell up there (Oh... wait...) But seriously, a few weeks ago I got a whole foot of snow, and I had to shovel the whole driveway (And it's a long ass driveway) I was so exhausted I didn't even feel like having a snowball fight after that, naturally, I sat on my ass all day watching flash movies on NG :P
