Newgrounds.com — Everything, By Everyone.

I've been playing around on Twitter for a few months now and thought I'd set up an official Newgrounds Twitter. I wanted twitter.com/newgrounds, but someone already took it. Maybe they will hand it over, but my repeated attempts to have Twitter support get it for me have failed. Maybe they couldn't confirm I was who I said I was. They just seem to ignore my requests now.

So I set up http://www.twitter.com/newgrounds_com

What is Twitter? Basically it's micro-blogging. When you post something it is called a Tweet. You might post something like "Playing COD5 on XBL!" or "Check out this cool website, newgrounds.com!" etc. You can follow people who you find interesting, and people can follow you. CNN, Foxnews, etc, have used Twitter to successfully build up a large number of followers. They can bounce questions off their followers, inform their followers about upcoming broadcasts, etc.

I'm not sure what all we will do with a newgrounds_com Twitter. Probably post links to cool content, maybe some behind the scenes info, or whatever. People can also re-tweet a tweet. So if newgrounds_com tweets a cool link you can re-tweet it to your followers and so on.

Many people use Twitter from mobile devices like iPhones, blackberrys, or any cell phone that can text. Or you can use the web browser interface.

If you are already on Twitter feel free to follow newgrounds_com, and I will set it to follow you. If you aren't on Twitter, check it out as it is easy to set up a new account.

Some of the NG staff have Twitter accounts. Well, at least Mike and I do. If you want to follow me, I'm http://www.twitter.com/wadeng. I just post about the stupid stuff I'm up to.

You can also attach pictures to Tweets, at least I can with my iPhone. So I may take a picture of what I'm doing, etc. There are some cool iPhone/iTouch Twitter clients such as Twinkle, Tweetie, Twitterfon, etc.

Twitter reaches a different audience. It also can be accessed from mobile devices. NG needs to beef up it's friend list features. Like if I post on my blog it could post a notice to anyone who is my buddy, or following me, etc.

I use Twitterfox, which is a cool app which notifies me in the corner of my screen when someone updates something on Twitter, I can also update from the same app.

I would take up your offer but after that hacking incident, i am having major second thoughts. You see if they can hack celebrities accounts, then they could just as easily hack my future account.And I really don't what people hacking into my stuff. Twitter found out how they hacked those accounts (including mine, I was one of the 33), and put a stop to it. It should be safe now. Just use a unique password so if someone would hack it they can't use the password for anything else.

In regards to the guy asking about hacking, even though they got into your account they didn't know your password, it's impossible for them to find your password because it's encrypted by twitter.

Actually that's not true. The "hackers" gained access to some Twitter admin utilities. This allowed them to change my email to their own email. They could then request my password. Once they had my password they could log into my account and change it to whatever they wanted. Twitter claims only 33 accounts were hacked in this way before they disabled that utility.

If you don't use Twitter, there wouldn't be much use. For those who do use Twitter, they can receive Tweets from NG, Tom, myself, etc, and follow along with what we're up to, tweeting about, etc. Some people monitor their Twitter regularly, either on their computer, or on their cell phone, etc. Some people may not hang out on NG on a regular basis, but if we tweet out a link to a cool Flash they may come back to the site to check it out. Our tweets may also be re-tweeted, like a chain reaction, and end up reaching thousands of people on Twitter who don't normally come to Newgrounds.

Twitter helped Saturday Morning Watchmen acheive over 97,000 views in a single day. People were tweeting about it constantly and in large numbers. Some people were tweeting it to their list of over 100,000 followers. If you can't understand how that is a good thing for Flash artists who submit their work to Newgrounds then I don't know what to tell you.

I enjoy gadgets in general. flashlights, knives, iPhone, etc. What most people think of as a flashlight is probably far from what I collect. Check out the LED Flashlights forum on candlepowerforums.com sometime.

Use the class to update the NG.com twitter when new content is added to Flash + Audio. Not hard, will get lots of more traffic.

I agree, I'd like to see the contacts list be easier to navigate to. It would also be nice if we could subscribe to RSS feeds of blog posts, if that would be at all possible, it'd serve a purpose similar to the Twitter account.
